Old Faithful.

It’s Tuesday again, which, as you might have gathered by now, usually means an evening of meetings or after-work commitments for the members of Chez Recessionista. And this particular Tuesday is no different.

So: Old Faithful to the rescue!

And, as usual, it did not disappoint. I supplemented the meal with some onion and tomatoes, as well as some fresh cilantro from the garden to give the dish a little extra flair. There’s just nothing like homegrown cilantro in the spring! That delicate little herb’s lifespan in the mid-Atlantic region is not nearly long enough – it’s a joy to consume while we can!

The stats:

Black beans: $1.25 ($0.63/person)
Rice: $1.75 ($0.88/person)
Chik’n patties: $3.99 ($1.00/person)
Onion: $1.49/eight ($0.09/person)
Tomatoes: $2.49 ($0.31/person)

GRAND TOTAL: $10.97 … or $2.91 per person.

:)
